Since its founding in 2010, Oklahoma Watch has received most of its funding from non-profit foundations. It will continue to rely on foundation support in the immediate future but also will be reaching out to diversify fundraising and explore opportunities for earned revenue.
Current funders:
Ethics & Excellence in Journalism Foundation: The Oklahoma City-based foundation invests in nonprofit and other media institutions and journalism schools nationwide, focusing on investigative reporting, youth education, professional development and special initiatives. It seeks to build the skills, ethics and opportunities to further the critical role of principled, probing journalism.
George Kaiser Family Foundation: The Tulsa-based foundation is a charitable organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by investing in early childhood education, community health, social services and civic enhancement. It develops projects and participates in many community and statewide initiatives, including ones in recent years related to female incarceration and the beautification of Tulsa. The foundation supports the Tulsa Community Foundation, which currently serves as Oklahoma Watch’s fiscal agent.
