A legislative task force investigating tax breaks in Oklahoma must determine which incentives are the result of good public policy and which are the result of good lobbying, the task force co-chair recently told OETA.

“That’s what we’re trying to sift through, to see which ones actually do have more benefits than what they cost us and that they’re not being given to an individual industry to use but rather benefiting the taxpayers as a whole in the state,” said Rep. David Dank, R-OKC, on Oklahoma Forum.

Dank, along with Oklahoma Watch reporter Warren Vieth and Joe Wertz, an online reporter with StateImpact Oklahoma, were guests on an episode of Oklahoma Forum that discussed the work of the Task Force for the Study of State Tax Credits and Economic Incentives.

Oklahoma Watch, in collaboration with OETA and other Oklahoma news outlets, has a current investigation into tax breaks in Oklahoma and has written about the task force and the issues surrounding its work. You can read all of those stories on Oklahoma Watch’s website.
