Narcotics tend to get more attention, but alcohol and nicotine remain the mind-altering chemicals of choice for most Oklahomans. Nearly half of all state residents above the age of 11 consumed alcohol and about a third used tobacco products, according to a 2012 federal survey of drug use in America.
