VA’s Opiate Overload Feeds Veterans’ Addictions, Overdose Deaths

An investigation by The Center for Investigative Reporting finds that VA-issued prescriptions of opiates have contributed to a fatal overdose rate among VA patients that is nearly double the national average. The No. 1 issuer of prescriptions is the VA medical center in Muskogee.
