According to the latest 2022 violent crime data reported to the FBI, Oklahoma was ranked 16th in highest violent crime rates among the 50 states and DC. Oklahoma’s rank has risen since the FBI began collecting data in 1979.

Analysis of 2022 data found that Oklahoma experienced 420 violent crime incidents per 100,000 Oklahomans. The highest rate was found in DC, with 812 per 100,000; the overall U.S. average was 380 per 100,000.

Violent crime is defined by the FBI as including aggravated assault, robbery, intentional or accidental homicide, and rape.
